History of the Two Rivers Fire Department

Volunteer fire fighters in Two Rivers at the turn of the century housed their horse drawn equipment on the corner of 17th and Washington Streets. The current fire station, built in 2001, is located on the corner of 22nd and Monroe Streets in the same location our previous building was located.

During the 1970's the department began providing emergency medical services to the community. Since then it has supplemented basic fire and EMS services with hazardous materials response, water rescue, high level rope rescue, paramedic level EMS, and numerous other services.

Over the years extensive efforts have been made by the department to become an active community member. These efforts have a proactive approach focusing on emergency incident prevention. Since its inception the department's mission has evolved from basic fire suppression to comprehensive advanced emergency management.

Today, the City of Two Rivers Fire Department is a combination department. Thirty-one members work to provide preventive and emergency response services to the city. Chief Steve Denzien is assisted by a full-time staff of two assistant chiefs/paramedics, three captain/paramedics, three acting captain/paramedics, nine fire fighter/paramedics, and one administrative assistant. The part-time staff includes eleven paid-on-call fire fighters.
