Social Media Policy
The City of Two Rivers’ social media policy is designed to encourage open, respectful community engagement while ensuring City platforms remain safe, lawful, and accessible to everyone. The policy allows a wide range of viewpoints and does not remove comments simply because they are critical or unpopular. However, content that is unlawful, threatening, obscene, or violates platform rules may be removed to protect public safety and legal compliance. It also clarifies that comments on City social media pages are public records and may be retained or used by the City as required by law. Finally, the policy explains that social media is not an official service request or notification channel, helping ensure residents receive timely assistance through the proper City departments.
Comments may be removed from City social media pages if they include:
- Content that is unlawful, including material that violates local, state, or federal law
- Threats of violence, harassment, or intimidation toward individuals or groups
- Obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit material
- Hate speech or discriminatory language targeting protected classes
- Personal attacks that rise to the level of harassment rather than constructive criticism
- Copyrighted material posted without permission
- Spam, commercial solicitations, or repetitive posts intended to disrupt discussion
- False impersonation of City officials or misleading claims of official City positions
- Content that violates the terms of service of the social media platform being used
Comments are not removed simply because they are critical of the City or its officials.
