This month’s selection: Sunflowers by Sheramy Bundrick Next month’s selection: Cream City Chronicles: Stories of Milwaukee’s Past by John Gurda This group meets the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 PM and is open to the public. Meetings are held once a month and last about an hour. No registration is required; you may attend as many meetings as you wish. 1st Step Story Time

1st Step is a fun, interactive program for children 1½ to 3 years old and their caregivers. Throughout the program, toddlers will be exposed to a wide variety of music & movement activities, sign language, letter/word identification, numbers, colors, shapes, and other pre-literacy activities. Instructors will also share appropriate books, songs, and activities with caregivers for use at home. Each 1st Step class consists of a 30 minute activity session followed by 30 minutes of free-play time. Caregivers should wear loose comfortable clothing and are strongly encouraged to be silly, sit on the floor, sing loudly and have fun! 1st Step meets once a week for 8 weeks from August 12 – September 30. Class size is limited so please register by calling 793-7116.

Story Circles: Birthdays

Story Circles are a time for people of all ages to recall memories, reminisce and share history and life experiences orally. Share forgotten details with your peers or bring history to life for a younger generation. Come share your story and listen to others share theirs. This month’s topic: Birthdays - Was your birthday a special occasion? How did you celebrate your birthday? Are there any birthdays that you remember as being extra special? Teen Late Night

Open to teens in 6th-12th grade only. Join us for an after-hours evening at the library. Computers, video games, snacks & hanging out with friends. Participants must be on time and stay for the entire evening. All participants must have a permission slip to attend the late night. Slips may be picked up at the youth desk beginning August 30. Only 40 spots available! Only one slip will be given to each teen, participants must pick up their own slip. Emergency number during the late night: 793-7116.

Card Making Class

Join instructor Carolee Crabb and create a variety of hand-made cards. Cost is $7.00 to cover the cost of materials. Foreign Film Series: Departures

A cellist named Diago comes to the rueful conclusion that he’s not talented enough to make a career as a musician; having just returned to his hometown with his wife Mika, he answers a job ad for what he thinks must be a travel agency... only to discover the company prepares bodies to be placed in coffins. Fearful of his wife’s response, he hides his new job--but as he grows to appreciate his boss and the affect that the humbling ceremony of cleaning and dressing the deceased has on their families, Diago discovers that he might have a calling. The Maze: Teen Event

There is only one way in and one way out – do you have what it takes to solve The Maze? Join teens in 6th-12th grade as you compete to solve our life-size grid maze. A test of memory, the path becomes more and more difficult as the night goes on - beginning with simple steps forward to more complex diagonals, backwards, and more! Snacks and soda provided, no registration required.
