12.5 Acres to be Cleared in Downtown Two Rivers

Demolition permits have been filed by Thermo Fisher Scientific to remove all 1.2 million square feet (40 buildings) at the former Hamilton Manufacturing plant in downtown Two Rivers. The property is immediately adjacent to the 3.5 acres of land that was cleared by Egger’s Industries when it built a new factory in the city. While future development plans are not clear yet, the site to be cleared lies along the harbor and East Twin River. It is also next to the new $16 million 17th Street lift bridge, which opened on August 1. This fall, the East Twin River along that property (from the Harbor to the 22nd Street bridge) will be dredged to restore the 100-foot river channel to 8.5 feet and clear some of the shoreline to 6 feet. The dredging will help us maintain a viable harbor for our commercial fishing fleet and recreational boating and support redevelopment of our harbor area.
