$500,000 Grant for Seawall and Water Main Repairs

The city has received a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to replace the failing harbor seawall and a nearby 105 year old water main. The project will rebuild 400 feet of seawall and replace 700 feet of damaged water main. Various sections of the seawall have breached in recent years, causing erosion of the seawall structure. The urgent need to repair this infrastructure qualified for the “Urgent Local Need” category of CDBG grants. Funding for these awards comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The total project is estimated to cost nearly $2 million and is scheduled to begin in early 2014.
