Renewed Commitment to Economic Development Corporation

The City Council has extended our funding commitment to the Economic Development Corporation of Manitowoc County (EDCMC) for another three years. City funding for 2014-16 will remain at the current level of $24,750 per year. This represents a commitment by our local governments to continue participating actively in a private-public partnership to promote private investment, jobs and economic opportunity in Manitowoc County. A partnership that is business-led, through the time, talents and funding support of local business leaders, who believe it is worthwhile to join together and work with local governments for the common good. A partnership, only eight years old, created after some area business leaders took a look at economic development organizations around Wisconsin and the upper Midwest. What they found was that successful development organizations bring the resources of both the private and public sectors together, to pursue a comprehensive approach to economic development. A partnership that has demonstrated success in working with entrepreneurs wanting to start businesses, with existing businesses wanting to expand, and in reaching out to recruit new businesses. And most recently, in sponsoring and coordinating an industry cluster study, which has identified new economic opportunities in the manufacturing, agriculture, energy and tourism sectors of our area economy.
