Stormwater Pond Information
(03/30/2011-03/30/2020)
What are stormwater ponds and what are they for? Want to learn more?
Stormwater Ponds are popping up all over in Northeast Wisconsin. They collect and hold stormwater runoff to remove pollutants carried by the water before they enter our rivers and lakes. Stormwater does not drain to a treatment facility, stormwater ponds are one of many Best Management Practices (BMPs) that are being used to treat storwmater prior to it entering our local waterways. Water that flows into the drains in our roads can be carried to stormwater ponds through underground pipes. Runoff can also enter ponds through overland flow or ditches. Once the water reaches a stormwater pond, sediment and other pollutants settle to the bottom. The water that entered as polluted runoff leaves the pond gradually, resulting in cleaner water entering the receiving lakes and streams.
